About Album
The album DJENUB ( from Arabic meaning of South) has served as a cathartic way for Simona to connect to her Mediterranean roots by paying homage to the music of her hometown in Napoli, as well as exploring the sounds of Chinese folk music to honour her current city of residency.
Whether it’s a heart-wrenching delivery of a spirited Spanish bolero, a haunting traditional Chinese folk song, or an intricate and gorgeously grounded improvised passage in the jazz idiom, Simona’s crystalline voice and impassioned lyric delivery tells the stories of ancestors who have come before her, while also pushing the boundaries of what music can be.
